EANGUS Appoints CSM (Ret) John Gipe as Executive Director

EANGUS is proud to announce the appointment of Command Sergeant Major (Retired) John Gipe as its new Executive Director. With an impressive military career that includes leadership experience at the highest levels, Gipe brings exceptional expertise in strategic operations, personnel management, and national defense policy.

Gipe’s distinguished service includes his role as the 9th Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs. In this capacity, he advised the Assistant Secretary and staff on enlisted affairs concerning 1.1 million military personnel across the Army and Air National Guard, as well as the reserves of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard. During his tenure as the Senior Enlisted Advisor, he also held several additional positions: Chairman of the Department of Defense Reserve Component Senior Enlisted Advisory Council, Senior Enlisted member of the Department of Defense Yellow Ribbon Advisory Council, Senior Enlisted representative on the Department of Defense Freedom Award selection board, and a member of the Senior Advisory Board for the 11th Quadrennial Review of Military Compensation.

In addition, he served as the 8th Command Sergeant Major of the Army National Guard, where he was the principal advisor to the Director of the Army National Guard on training, personnel policy, and family programs, overseeing the well-being of 372,800 Soldiers and their families.

His exceptional experience, leadership, and commitment to service make him an invaluable asset as we continue our mission to promote, safeguard, and enhance the status, welfare, and professionalism of enlisted National Guard members, veterans, retirees, and their families through legislation, employment, education, emergency resources, and partnerships.

We would also like to thank Frank Yoakum for graciously serving as our interim executive director. His efforts and expertise are invaluable and greatly appreciated.

John will assume the duties of Executive Director on 1 June 2025.
