General Dan Caine was confirmed as the chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in a Senate vote early Friday morning.

Caine began his career at the Virginia Military Institute in the ROTC program in 1990. Since then, he has held a number of positions in the National Guard, Department of Defense, and the White House.

As President Donald Trump’s nominee to the position of chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Caine will be reinstated to active service and promoted to four-star general. His confirmation in the Senate came after a 60 to 25 vote and bipartisan support from the Senate Armed Services Committee.

“EANGUS is thrilled for General Dan Caine as the Senate confirmed him to be the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff,” said EANGUS Interim Executive Director Frank Yoakum.

“Alongside Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and General Steve Nordhaus, the National Guard enjoys a strong presence in the E Ring of the Pentagon. We congratulate Chairman Caine and look forward to working closely with his office on issues mutually beneficial to our Association and the Department.”

In a letter to the Joint Force, Caine said he will spend the coming weeks engaging with the Joint Chiefs and Combatant Commanders before issuing his priorities and expressed his trust in the force.

“As an American, I am deeply grateful for your sacrifices, and as a warfighter, I am incredibly honored to serve alongside you,” Caine said.
