Lt. Gen. Steven Nordhaus is officially the next chief of the National Guard Bureau. After a two-month vacancy, the position previously held by Gen. Daniel Hokanson has been filled. Nordhaus was awarded a fourth star with his promotion, and will serve as a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Since 2023, Nordhaus has served as a senior commander at the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). Previously, he was the special assistant to the director of the Air National Guard, an active duty F-16 pilot and F-16 instructor, and a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy.

“The role and influence of the National Guard is worldwide, yet still hometown based,” said EANGUS Executive Director Jeff Frisby. “Our Soldiers and Airmen are serving in countries all across the globe, as well as here in local communities, to uphold and provide for the national defense. It is National Guard who is not just serving our communities, they are a part of the community. EANGUS is excited for Lt. Gen. Steven Nordhaus’ confirmation as the next Chief of the National Guard Bureau because it ensures that all of our Citizen Soldiers and Airmen, no matter where they are or their status, have the leadership in place to advise and represent them. We are eager to embrace challenges together with Lt. Gen. Nordhaus and focus on growing the National Guard so that it remains one of the world’s most relevant, capable, diverse, and adaptable fighting forces.”

Strong leadership is essential for our force, our readiness, and the success of our domestic and foreign missions. EANGUS is thrilled to have Nordhaus at the helm of the NGB and, along with the entire Enlisted community, wish him a successful tenure.
